Wedding Tree Planting Ceremony

Wedding Tree Planting Ceremony

Happy Earth Day everyone!!

‘L’ and I got married almost a year ago in our backyard in a small and quaint ceremony.  We love gardening and we are also work hard to be environmentally conscious.    So the idea of planting a tree as part of our wedding ceremony was the perfect fit.  Planting and growing a tree is a great way to symbolize marriage.  You have to care for it and nurture it in order for it to grow and be strong enough to withstand all the elements.  Our very dear friend Kristin gave us a fig tree that she had been raising in a container so that we could plant it in the ground and it could begin its next stage of life.  It is also important to note that Kristin was also our wedding officiant.  You can read more about the actual ceremony that we performed last year HERE.

Now we look forward to our fig tree producing fruit so that we can incorporate another love, cooking!

      Yup 🙂
It was wonderful getting married in our backyard! It was so intimate and special… and it is great having a loving feeling of being in a special place just by walking out the back door.

What a sweet and thoughtful gift! How lovely that you can think of your friend as this tree grows alongside your relationship. I’m also looking forward to your fig recipes sometime down the line.

Thanks Cynthia! It’s a wonderful thing to be able to look out at the tree getting bigger and stronger and know that our love does the same thing each day!

What a lovely way of symbolizing your marriage. Reminds me of that Kahlil Gibran poem (maybe the wrong number of trees, though . . . .).

Happy Earth Day and happy almost anniversary Kenley!
I love figs – discovered the joy of fresh figs when I lived in Australia. They are such beautiful trees too. How lovely to have one in your yard! Lucky you.

I just love this! My best friend is getting married this weekend, too (it’s also a backyard ceremony–they are the loveliest), so I’ll have to suggest that she and her husband-to-be do this at some point. What a sweet idea.

Thanks Megan! Yeah, it was a really special part of the ceremony and we did it instead of unity candles or combining sand or… But even if your best friend and her husband do this as a private thing together down the road, it really makes for a wonderful symbol to look out at as a reminder of your love. Oh…and with it being this weekend, keep in mind that Friday is Arbor Day 🙂

This is just the sweetest, Kenley! On the day I was born, my father planted a pear tree outside my bedroom window and it was always so special to know it was my tree and see it grow as I grew up myself.

Happy almost anniversary and Happy Earth Day! I’m going to celebrate with a walk outside after lunch 🙂

I read your tree planting ceremony post and I was delighted with the ” encourage each other” sentiment. Encouragement and praise are definitely tools of growth. Happy Anniversary! I love “fig” everything!

  19. Happiest of Anniversaries to you two! Your ceremony sounded like it was beautiful and intimate and one for the record books. I love the idea of sealing the deal by planting a tree as part of the ceremony. Thanks for sharing about this beautiful moment!

Thanks so much Lauren! It was very small and intimate…just the way we wanted. 🙂 And now every time we are in our backyard it reminds us of how special of a place it is.
