This is a tasty side dish to accompany a variety of meals. The savory flavors of the bacon and shallots really enhance the green beans. This really is a simple dish to prepare and the wow factor for your guests will be great!
Green Beans with Bacon and Shallots
Steam cook the green beans until crisp-tender. Blanch them and set aside.
Fry bacon in a large fry pan until crisp. Remove bacon to paper towel, pat dry, and let cool. Remove half of the grease in the pan and set aside.
Add the finely chopped shallot to the large fry pan and cook at medium temperature until tender and translucent.
Meanwhile, chop bacon into small pieces.
Turn the heat to low. Add green beans to large fry pan and toss with the cooked shallots. Season with cracked black pepper and kosher salt to taste. Let cook for a minute. If needed, add a drizzle more of the reserved bacon grease.
Add bacon to green bean mixture and toss to combine.
Turn out mixture into a serving bowl and enjoy!
This looks really tasty will give it a try 🙂 Thank you for posting.

My boyfriend loves the combo of bacon and green beans! I like your addition of a shallot too. I’m sure we’ll be trying this within the next week. 🙂
Thanks! I swear I’m a shallot junkie, lol! But they are so good with so many dishes! And yes, this will go right along with your paleo diet 🙂
I love this recipe, the beans look so green and vibrant.. I love shallots combined with green beans..
Cynthia
Thanks Cynthia! 🙂
A go with everything veggie that we never tire of. If I happen to have a bit on hand, I use pancetta, too.
Oh I love pancetta with green beans as well! Green beans in general are a big favorite in our home as well! 🙂
This looks delicious! I am always looking for a green vegetable that has lots of flavor to serve with chicken that runs on the bland side – this would do very nicely!
.
I think green beans pair so well with chicken! Not only are the flavors complimentary, the beans add some beautiful color to the plate. 🙂

We can almost smell the picture.. If we had our way, we’d put shallots in everything!
Me too!! (Though perhaps not in your lovely snowman crackers, hehe)
Perfect for dinner! I was just thinking one day recently of what would be an easy and delicious recipe to do with green beans…and here it is!
So glad that I could be of service 🙂 I really think you’ll enjoy this dish!

In Asia this will be a perfect dish to go with plain rice or porridge. My mum normally use dried prawns to fry with it but bacon looks great. I should try it soon.

Hope you like it Danny! 🙂

Kenley, this is perfect! I was trying to think of a side dish today with sea scallops that would be different. This is it!!! Thank you again 🙂
Oh wonderful! 🙂 So happy I could help. These will be wonderful with your sea scallops I’m sure!

I love fresh green beans and shallots. This looks so delicious. I love throwing a bunch of green beans into the crock pot with some chicken broth, ham hocks, and onion. Oh my goodness!
Oh does that sound good too!!! Yum!
I make this dish a lot, but have never added bacon. I will give your recipe a try!
I really find the bacon adds a great flavor to the mix. Hope you enjoy!

Kenley,
I love your new gravatar!! I prepared the green beans with bacon yesterday with sea scallops, breading, bourbon, and pecans. It was delicious. Thank you for the inspiration of the green beans and bacon. Truly a great side dish or lite snack/lunch.
Thanks! Glad you like the gravatar! And glad you enjoyed the green beans yesterday 🙂 Are these the same sea scallops that you posted a month or so ago? Those had sounded so yummy! And are still on my list to make. Thanks for the reminder 🙂
Yes, I prepared them again yesterday with bourbon. They were perfect with your green bean recipe 🙂
Fresh green beans are totally my favorite, and what could be better than a little sauteed shallot and bacon! On the menu this week, thanks so much!
Jenna
You quite welcome Jenna! Hope you enjoy 🙂

Now this a coincidence. Today I made a similar side dish, only I added fresh minced garlic and used minced red onion instead of shallots.
I really like the red onion and garlic version as well! And that IS quite the coincidence! 🙂

One of my favorite ways to cook green beans…bacon really adds to their flavor, whether long simmered or prepared as you have here.
Agreed! Bacon does such wonderful things to Green Beans… And to Brussels Sprouts! 🙂
